Day 44 – Funkiest Restaurant in Vancouver… The Eatery
Just back from a quick vacation to Vail Colorado. Vail is a gorgeous city, with some amazing snowboarding/skiing, and some of the worst overpriced Japanese food I have ever eaten. As soon as I got back to our beautiful city I was in need of a sushi fix.
The Eatery is located on Broadway between Waterloo and Collingwood (out towards UBC). The adjective to describe this place more often than not… ‘funky’. You walk in to a club like atmosphere with some interesting beats playing in the back ground, and something visually stimulating everywhere you look. Hard to describe the décor, but there is a lot of Andy Warhol influence and a lot of Astro Boy influence… if that makes any sense. Hoards of UBC students make their way in the door, but I have also taken my parents here and they didn’t feel out of place.
The service is friendly and laid back. And the food is amazing. The menu is a pretty heavy read, but everything I have tried is worth trying again. They have all the traditional Japanese items and much much more. The signature sushi rolls are very creative, and awesome. One of my favourites is ‘The Miss Piggy Roll’ – Bacon, scallop, asparagus, roe, and eel sauce. They also offer a daily specials sheets with discounted drinks and food (a whole page each day). Check out the full menu here.
Hard to give someone an idea of what this place is like, because it is so different from any dining experience out there. The website can give you a sneak peak of what is to come… check this place out, you won’t be disappointed!
