Day 47 – Hit Up Some Indoor Rock Climbing in Vancouver at the Cliffhanger Gym
Vancouverites are known to get restless this time of year. We are restricted to spending the majority of our time indoors due to the crappy weather that can plague this city for weeks at a time. One of the only indoor activities that gives me a lot of the same sensation of being outside is indoor rock climbing.
The new Cliffhanger facility in Vancouver located on Industrial Ave is top-notch. With over 15,000 sq ft, 53 top ropes, and a lot of bouldering there is something there for every level of climber. Stepping in the door of a facility like this for the first time can be very intimidating, what you need to do is sign up for one of their introduction courses seen here. After the 2 hour course that runs $69 you will be certified to belay (support a climber as they scale the wall… slightly important as you hold their life in your hands… literally). The course also includes your first week membership at the gym.
The basic gear you need to get started include rock climbing shoes, a harness, chalk, and a chalk bag. You can rent all of this gear at the Cliffhangers gym and if you get in to the sport MEC has a ton of options for purchase.
